Federal Career Experts has extensive experience in the areas of career development and career transition.

Career Services

 

Career development is sometimes also referred to as employee development, or even human capital development and is generally directed towards current agency employees.  Career development is designed to help current employees advance within an agency and improving the agency while improving themselves.  A good career development program can be a retention (and even recruitment) aid.

 

Federal Career Experts can:

 

  • Help an agency design and implement a career development program.
  • Provide career counselors or consultants on a contract basis.
  • Provide training and assistance for agency HR and Training specialists to improve their career consulting skills.
  • Deliver high quality employee development seminars to current agency employees.  The seminars can be adjusted to fit the needs of any customer and can contain any or all of the following topics:

    • Career exploration (including assessment instruments if desired)
    • Discovering and preparing for opportunities
    • Résumés and applications (including automated application systems)
    • Interviewing

 

Career transition consists of helping employees who are potentially affected by agency reorganizations make a transition to a new career, a new agency, or the private sector.  Federal Career Experts trainers and consultants are primarily former federal employees who understand the unique needs of federal employees facing transitions.

Pre-Retirement Services

 

    Federal Career Experts provides many different lengths of pre-retirement seminars for many different audiences.  We also provide speakers for agency meetings and conferences.  Our seminars come “off-the-shelf”, or they can be modified for the unique needs of any agency.

     

    One-day pre retirement seminars cover basic federal retirement benefits such as:

     

        • Retirement eligibility
        • Retirement computations
        • Survivor benefits
        • Federal insurance after retirement
        • Taxes
        • Social Security
        • Medicare
        • Thrift Savings Plan

    Two-day pre retirement seminars cover the above items in greater depth, in addition to the following items:

     

    • Financial planning
    • Estate planning
    • Working after retirement
    • Retirement living

    Longer pre-retirement seminars can be presented as well.  They will allow time for group exercises and individual discussions with the instructor or other retirement experts.

     

    Seminars can be separated by employee type, such as:

     

    • CSRS (including CSRS Offset)
    • FERS (including transferees)
    • Special category (including law enforcement, firefighters, air traffic controllers, military technicians)
    • Mid-career employees
    • New employees

    Federal Career Experts can provide individual retirement counseling either as a part of a seminar, or on an individual basis.  We can provide on-site counselors, or have distance counseling available via phone or email.  Federal Career Experts utilizes the services of The Federal Retirement Lady for distance counseling.
